"A Mindset of Leadership: Mission, Position, Responsibility, and Technique"

By

Doug Eiderzen, April 24, 2020

(Discussion Number 38)

`To be able to be creative and to improvise is wonderful, but the key to any improvising is that it must not only work, but be successful in its workings.`

Maybe with the virus situation, we (European Americans) are being forced to improvise our lives or investigate our lives just a little. There is always available the option to adopt and then adapt any situation or element to our needs. When all is said and done, we are, after all, European Americans with our values rooted in our disciplines of life (disciplines of life-our ideology of life gives us being or purpose) and our disciplines of function (disciplines of function-that which bolsters up or protects our ideology of life). Our accomplishments are set before us to be observed in any encyclopedia. Maybe, in the current given situation, we are finding we can educate our children at home; at home, using the application of technology, which shares knowledge amongst and between European American children, by means of distance learning. Again, we should look deep into the notion of adopt and then adapt.

In the accomplishment of both short term goals and long term goals, we should be able to identify the following: mission, position, responsibility, and technique. Mission is no more than issuing or giving an assignment. Always, this given assignment order strives toward a positive completion; position is where the mission will take place; responsibility shows what one is accountable for or what one must make happen; and technique represents how the mission is to come about and be accomplished or completed from the positive. We should remember, any mission, position, responsibility, and technique (MPResT [as I like to refer to it]) rests upon implied leadership. And implied leadership rests upon intuitive thinking toward the positive accomplishment of any mission. Remember, at all times, somebody has to be responsible for the positive accomplishment of any mission. Dear folk, we have talked about this in our educational discussions of 28, 29, and 30; as well, I have discussed this in the purple book (The Application of Thought and Reality: The Model).

Our MPResT are relevant to most anything and, yet again, our MPResT may apply to short term and long term goals. All rests upon the positive outcome of the ordered mission. Let us break this down into examples for reference: To the child, the mission statement might be to go to the grocery store and get bread, cheese, and milk; the position states what store is to be physically shopped; the responsibility is to physically put the items into the shopping cart; the technique involves money to pay for said items and be sure of correct change. Thus, the ordered mission statement has been accomplished. Implied leadership toward intuitive thinking comes into being when our leader realizes the store is out of bread. Now our leader must reevaluate the entire mission situation through intuitive thinking (is there a substitute that might work; is there another store close by that carries the needed commodity, etc.). All of this intuitive thinking must be carried our within the limitations given in the overall task (examples of limitations might involve a time factor for completing the task; amount of money to be used for purchase of items, etc.). Coming into being, there is a balancing out factor dealing with available options which our leader must decisively think over for the task to be positively accomplished. Granted, the above example is a very simple illustration, but such may be applied to any mission order dealing with any degree of difficulty. To our leader, the most important element is the thinking ability to positively accomplish the ordered task within the mission statement. Such thinking ability must be taught.

One of the most important aspects of MPResT is to keep the elements simple. The simpler the order given for any mission`s accomplishment, the better chance of said mission`s positive outcome. Any ordered mission statement expressed in simple terms, normally, is completed in simple acts. In reference to the example above of short term goal accomplishment, the mission should be stated in simple words, `Our child leader will go to the store and get bread, cheese, and milk.` The position will be which store to travel to for the items. The responsibility will be the physical element of putting bread, cheese, and milk into a shopping cart. The technique element will involve the physical nature of paying for the items. Thus, mission accomplished. The idea of bringing the purchased items home is not stated in the mission statement and may be accepted as a `given` or may involve an entirely new mission statement. The applied element is to teach a certain type of thinking within our child leader.

We must always remember that we teach a mindset as well as a subject of English, mathematics, history, science, etc. All is combined for a positive outcome.
